I may have spoken about this before, but as we are moving into our busiest period of the year, I thought I would remind you of the difference’s and hopefully motivate your thinking and approach to your hairdressing.
Beginning a hairdressing career is a fantastic journey, this is because you don’t just learn the basic’s and then off you go, your a hairdresser, as you never stop learning.
Learning the basic’s and learning them correctly, I believe is an absolute must. If you do not understand all the different haircuts and techniques, how can you go one to further your career, this is probably the biggest area for hairdresser’s not reaching their full potential.
Once you have perfected your basic knowledge, you can then begin how to push the barriers of your learning.
I have seen hairdresser’s learn the basic’s and go on to make a great career for themselves, but if you want more from your hairdressing then this is where you have to think about, “thinking out of the box”.
Look to where you have to “Check in your haircut”, where things have to blend, and where they don’t have to blend, this is a good starting point. I now cut using a lot of diagonal section’s, I find this helps me move through a haircut using the contours of the head, by doing this I can create more sympathetic shapes to suit the client.
Another good inspirational way to examine the different shapes out there, are the magazines, could some hair up styles be cut into a permanent shape, I don’t know, I am just asking you can this be done, give it a go.
Enjoy your hairdressing, John Mcloughlin.
